The house of Paperhands

In many ways, this house was the inspiration for Paperhands. It is a traditional villa that was re-located from Mauriceville to rural Martinborough in 2003. In 2007, Helen and Ben decided to renovate it. They searched high and low for the eclectic style of locally-made wallpaper that matched their personal style, but it was nowhere to be found. They discovered in their search that New Zealand had a history of handcrafted wallpaper-making in the 60s and 70s, so they set about learning the craft in order to revive the tradition that now decorates their home.

Ben and Helen have an eclectic collection of artwork and furniture. They love bright colours and natural textures. the house of Paperhands is one of contrasts. As a home, it is an expression of them, and that means quirky, surprising, and definitely not boring.
