ABOUT

Helen and Ben make wallpaper, by hand, in their studio in Martinborough. They haven’t always done this. Helen is a winemaker. Ben, an artist and retail designer. To begin with, Paperhands was a creative outlet for both, until they realised that no one else in New Zealand was making wallpaper, by hand, quite like they were. That’s when things got more serious.

Helen and Ben work together on concepts and designs. They are inspired by many things, but most often by the flora and fauna of New Zealand. They strive to create prints and designs that are unique, meaningful, and rare.

Paperhands wallpaper is screen-printed. Helen and Ben lay wallpaper upon long benches, then screen-print each panel, carefully. They use premium, water-based, solvent-free inks, sourced from all over the world from suppliers with the highest environmental standards. They use a paper base made from one-hundred-percent sustainably-sourced timber.
